two breaking news stories this morning. a quadruple stabng right near the university of maryland. what led to the violence. it happened on college park, route 1. tracee wilkins joinsous on the scene. tracee, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we don't know whether t men were students at the university of maryland or not. what we do know is it all started right here at the thirsty turtle. according to prince george's county police, it moved down the block. police say around 1:30 this morning, four victims were stabbed. one was stand stabbed in the back. another stabbed in the arm and face. two other victims, we don't know exactly where they were stand, but all four were taken to the hospital. they have not been identified. there have not been any arrests at this time. but prince george's county police say two of the victims were 19, one was 20, one was 23. all male victims.
that's what we know so far. still investigating whether they were students of the university of maryland. tracee wilkins live this morning. back to you all in the studio. >> tracee, thank you for the update. > a woman is dead after she was hit by a car and a bus. it happened midnight on sohbound i-270 near 124 in gaithersbu gaithersburg. investigators say a car and metrobus hit the woman. there were no passengers on the bus when this happened. right now they are not sure why she was on t highway. last night's accident was one of several involving pedestrians in montgomery county in recent days. th morning police say the state attorney office will determine in a driver will be charped after his car hit and killed two men. adam hosinski and rory weichbrod died when a car hit them.
the driver had a blood alcohol content of level .13, which is above the legal limit. poli plan to forward evidence on to the state's attorney office for review. a funeral held today for a maryland woman struck by a hit and run driver. 22-year-old dani elizabeth elaine mateo died last week. she was walking on carroll avenue in silver spring when an suv t her and kept going. detectives have yet to find the driver in that case. her funeral will be at 6:00 on comminidad christian international on swietzer lane in laurel.
this morning, federal government is asking some usda employees to stay home while crews clean up after a weekend fire. all employees at the riverdale building in maryland can stay home. those who are able to work from home can do so. those not equipped to telework are authorized to take administrative leave. the final rescue of 33 men trapped in a mine in chile could begin as early as tonight. recovery teams areaking preparations to lower a 13-foot chamber to extracthe men. kerry sanders explains the step-by-step rescue process. we're just so happy we did have the chance to come down here. hang the chance to come down here and making a difference with technology. we're very thankful for that and extremely happy that it actually worked. the capsule will travel down 2,000 feet to reach the miners. the recovery trip up the shaft isxpected to take 15 minutes per miner.
the army psychiatrist accused of killing 14 people at ft. hood will appear in court. it's the first day of major nadal hassan's hearing. survivors of the shooting will attend an ticle 32 hearing, which will determine if there's enough evidence to move on to a court-martial. 13 people died. 32 others were wounded. before being stationed at ft. hood hassan worked at walter re. one of the co-owners of a bookstore has died. carla cohen died yesterday of cancer. she was 74. she died at home in the district. the independent bookstore became a key stop for writers of all political stripes. a funeral wille held on 16th street in northwest wednesday afternoon. the store will close noon to 4:00. cohen is survived by her husband, two children and 100-year-old mother. we have a major traffic alert to tell you about this

unscripted crash brings film to go a screeching halt. the filming of transformers 3 is king place in town but a collision has suspended filming. it happened monday afternoon near the intersection ofthird. megan mcgrath is on capitol hill at the site of the crash with more on this story. good morning, megan. well, good morning, pat. talk about a setback. the starring car of this movie bumblebee is all banged up. they have suspended filming on d.c. streets at least for the time being. a lot of people are scratching their heads wondering how a d.c. police suv responding to a call could have driven through the scene and caused the crash. the transformers movs are known for action and crash scenes. but fans and filmmakers got more
an they bargained for when a d.c. police suv responding to a call with lights and sirens on drove through the scene and collided with one of the movie's starring cars, bumblebee. this video was taken by a fan who came to watch the filming. when it first happened, many thought the wreck was part of the sce. >> i was just over there filming the scene. the police car must have drove through to an emergency or something and the car didn't see him. &ty just hit head on. >> i saw the wreck. i thought it was part of the movie, did you? >> yeah. >> reporter: now, the police department released this statement saying the metropolitan police department is investigating the facts of the crash and the filming of this movie on closed d.c. city streets has been suspended until safety procedures can be reviewed. now, there were supposed to be street closures as well as
filming today. on third street we have u.s. park police monitoring this. we have a number of poduction vehicles that are parked all along third street. the big question is whether or not they will allow fiing. again, they have suspended filming until they can review saef safety procedures and figure out what went wrong. it t banged up pretty good in this crash. that's too bad. thanks, megan. >> this morning we have a major traffic alert in northe virginia. it's happeninground route 123 and the beltway in tysons corner. crews are working on the new phase the high occupancy tl or hot lanes. tonight crews will shut down the ramp that goes from cambridge northbound to the beltway. drivers will have to move to a heavy turn lane. also crews will shift all four northbound lanes of the beltway to the lt when approaching 123. then this weekend crews will
shut down all four lanes of route 123 under 495. that happens friday night through early monday morning. officials warn drivers to add 20 minutes to their commutes. also, police investigating a disturbing sex assault inside a local college library. a man sprayed a woman with a bodily fluid in the library on friday. she reported the accident. a security guard chad the man across campus. he escaped but officers got a good description of his car. to northern virginia where investigators say it appears the serial burglar has struck again. loudon county sheriff's office is looking at two more cases that happened over t weekend. it took place on waterford way, the same location where a home was burglarized onriday. this is in addition to 90 similar cases in fairfax county and 14 in prince william.
decision 2010. the race for governor is heating up. martin o'malley and chlenger and former republican governor bob ehrlich faced off in their first debate on monday. the one-hour debate took place at a baltimore television station. at times the exchanges were intense, especially when it came to publieducation. >> we love progress. when the kids are being denied their constitutional rights and passing functional tests at 5%, 10%, 15% rates. >> and you want to cut their fuing for education if you're elected and you cut school construction funding in each of your times, governor. >> the economy was also a hot topic. o'malley said the state has created 33,000 new jobs on his watch. but ehrlich criticized o'malley forraising the state tax. they will debate again thursday in washiton.
president obama is calling into the investigation of a british hostage possibly killed by her own rescuers in afghanistan. shwas from scotland. she worked for an aid project funded by development alternative. nato troops may have detonated a grenade that killed her in the middle of a rescue attempt last week a general in the special operations command has been appointed to investigate that raid. for the first time a u.s. clinical trial using embryonic stem cells on humans is under way. it was given to a patit who recently suffered a spinal cord injury. doctors injected stem cells manipulated into nerve cells into the patient's spine. the trial has been approved by e federal government and will last two years. it will test whether stem cell thery is safe, not whether the therapy actually works. if you've been loving summer in october you may love it again for just a few more minutes. >> hours.

beltway. we'll head over and check the rails. 841, 843, substantial delays now. developing delays on 0, 74, 892. vre and metro doing fine. eun. >> jerry, thank you. we are following two breaking news story. we begin right off the university of maryland campus where the search is on for suspects after four people were stabbed outside a bar. that's where tracee wilkins joins us live. tracee, good morning >> reporter: good morning, eun. we're still waiting to see whether the folks were university of maryland students or not. police are looking for at least one suspect, possibly more and that four people were stabbed last night. it looks like it all stted at the thirsty turtle alo the edge of the university of maryland campus and ended right down the street at the cornerstone bar. police say just after 1: this morning four victims were sta abbed.
one person was stabbed in the ba. another in the arm and face. they were all taken to the hospital. police do not know if the victims are students. they're trying to figure out what started the fight. of course this is a bar that is frequented by students but also folks who live in this area as well. tracee wilkins live in this morning in college park. a woman is dead after she was hit by a car and a bus. this happened midnight southbound 270. state police have not identified the victim. investigators say a car and a metrobus hit the woman. there were no passengers on the bus when this happened. right now they are not sure why the woman was in the highway. it was shut down for several

that's according to a prince george's county police spokeswoman. tracee wilkins joins youive on the scene on route 1 with the latest. tracee, good morning. >> reporter: yes, good morning. three of the four are university of maryland students. it happened here. started outside the thirsty turtle here university of maryland on the edge of campus and then moved on down the block to another bar here at the end of the cornerstone grill. police say the fight started at the first location and went down route 1. just after 1:30 this morning four victims were stabbed. the ages of the folks involved. police say two of the victims were 19, one was 20, one was 23. all male victims. it does not appear anyones suffering from life-threening injuries. but police are continuing their investigation trying to figure out how all of this started and of course still looking for that suspect. tracy kill wins live from college park. back to you all in the studio.
